Miller Enters Race for 49th District State Representative
I am running for State Representative because I believe that the people of the 49th district deserve the best qualified person representing them and I know I am that person. I am the only candidate in the race with experience balancing a multimillion dollar budget. We need representatives in Lansing who can hit the ground running. My 5 years of experience as the Flint Township Supervisor have prepared me to be a leader in Lansing.
Many candidates can talk about fixing roads in Michigan, but I am the only candidate with actual experience working with residents, business owners, and the Road Commission to get roads repaired and repaved. I am the only candidate in this race that has experience strengthening public safety in a community so that everyone can feel safer in their home no matter their economic standing.
As the only mom with children in the race that have graduated high school, I know firsthand the importance of properly funding out schools and having top notch educators in our classrooms. I have a daughter in graduate school who must begin repaying student loans from her undergraduate education, a son working on his bachelor’s degree and one more entering college in the fall. I know the burden student loans place on our college students and their families. We need a strong economy so our children can find good paying jobs after school and actually pay for the loans that paid for their education without having to leave Michigan or live at home for ten years. I will support legislation that will help create jobs in Michigan so our children and grandchildren can have a brighter future.
Part of rebuilding the economy is to stop taxing the pension of retirees on fixed incomes. These retirees planned for their retirement and now the fixed income they were depending on falls short each month. I will support repealing the pension tax that is hurting the livelihoods of many residents in the 49th district.
If elected, I will work to keep insurance companies from taking advantage of Michigan families. As a mother with a son living with cystic fibrosis, I know firsthand what it’s like to not be able to afford health insurance and worry about paying medical bills for doctor’s visits and costly prescriptions. I have stood in your shoes, I can relate to your struggles and I will fight for issues that concern you.
I believe that men and women should be paid equally and that still today women are not compensated as much as their male counterparts. I will support legislation that demands equal pay no matter your sex, age, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
As your State Representative, I will continue Jim Ananich’s legacy of fighting for the residents of the 49th district.
